The initiative is intended to develop an apprenticeship culture for locally based graduates. Such apprentice schemes are currently seldom found here in the United Arab Emirates, though common in construction consultancies throughout western countries.
TTS welcome three students from the Heriot Watt University’s Dubai Campus to work with the company between June and August 2013. The three students were successful in their application for a summer internship with TTS, having been initially interviewed during the Careers Day at the University in March 2013. Candidates from the Quantity Surveying, the Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering with Management MSc and BSc courses, have been selected.
TTS’s Managing Quantity Surveyor Ralph Hodgkinson commented by saying “We were surprised initially by the level of interest. We interviewed over fifty candidates during the Career’s day.
We were keen not to focus only on quantity surveying students, but also to look for potential future additions to our already strong MEP surveying, specialist systems and SAS teams.
We are delighted to work with the university in this way and hope this is the start a long and successful partnership. The local talent base is something we must tap into as we continue to build on our 29 year history in Dubai and the UAE.”
