The staff at TTS were involved in one of UAE’s most note- worthy social initiatives - Water for Workers, held on 30th August 2014 aimed at appreciating those who build the City. The initiative by The Sameness Project invites volunteers to help distribute drinking water with personalised stickers on the bottles to Dubai’s army of Asian workers. The volunteers also hand out face towels with the words “thank you” in six languages — English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and Tagalog. The event aims to put social and cultural divisions aside to meet and engage in conversations with the people who help make Dubai what it is.
The morning saw 450+ volunteers lining up and down the car-park at Emirates International School, Jumeriah to pick up water and thank you packs. Approximately 5,000 bottles of water were dispatched within 30 minutes with the volunteers driving out to different parts of the city to distribute the bottles to any workers in sight. TTS’s team included 6 members - Chamila Indika Kumara WG, Catherine R.V., Neha Stivan Irkal, Sanath Bandula Dissanayaka, Nawodanie Senevirathna and Rangana Asantha, as well as family members of the staff. Since all the bottles had been circulated the team decided to go and buy their own bottles and head out to construction sites on Al Wasl Road to give out the water and shake the hands of workers which we met along the way, spreading some smiles and laughter. It was an incredible morning that taught each of us to look past what makes us different, to see what makes us the same.
